Something pink for you, and a rest for me!

Hi all.  It's October.   *#&*!  The month of pink.  In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month, I am offering an 18 x 25 piece of a beautiful shade of pink linen (30 count?), matching jumbo rick rack called Sweet Peach that is discontinued, Wildflowers in Rosebud, Cherry Cordial, and 2 skeins of Parfait.  Rosebud doesn't appear to be a full skein.  If you would like to have this small offering of pinkness, please leave a comment stating so.
Thursday evening I received a call from my carpenter/construction wizard, saying he had Friday free and could come over to work.  YES!!!  We had to have 5/8" dense and heavy underlayment removed beneath carpeting in preparation for 3/4" wood flooring.  A nightmare, and we knew it would be.  It was nailed every 4 inches so the pry bars were breaking off pieces that went flying through the air along with a heavy dust.  I was carrying garbage cans filled with pieces and nails outside, and anything bigger than 5" was taken dragged to the spit to burn.  I begged him to take breaks!!   He works alone, fast, and hard and I could barely keep up.  We didn't have a dumpster or any plan since it was such short notice.  But I'm not complaining - it's done.  Here he is on the last few nails after cleanup, and my fire with the only two larger pieces on top of the burning smalls.  This pile was only 1 hour into the work, and we worked for 6 hours.  Before someone asks, no we don't roast lambs here - we don't eat babies including veal.  He put the carpeting back down over the plywood and it's ready for the new floor.  Furniture is back and most of the "stuff" from the room is somewhere - not sure where - don't really care.

I am sucking down the Advil again today and almost fully recovered but I have to say - I really felt my age.  My wrist brace made it more difficult and my sore leg didn't help either.  But there's nothing wrong with a little hard work and aches are only temporary.  He'll be back to remove the ash floor in the kitchen and put down whatever we decide throughout.  I want pine.  No one agrees.
I had a wonderful surprise as I dragged my butt to the mailbox.  Penny was so sweet to send me some strawberry corn!!  Thank you again Penny!!  I plan on making a garland.
I also forgot to mention in the last post that the flexible cutting mat for the kitchen can be used in place of Mylar if you can't find a nice piece. It's much heavier but still flexible.  I tried it for a colonial style sewing bag/pouch but being so flexible, it didn't keep the larger piece's top edge from bending when hung from its straps.  Usually I slip the bottom of a wire hanger or a small diameter dowel rod in the top edge to hold it open and flat.  That works great.
A few stitchers have stitched my pear!   The first one is here -eefsneedle.
The second is found here - jubama. She used Crescent Colours.   Love the photos and both used a real stem.  I'm so glad to see these and am happy you like the design.  It's a quick stitch!

I'll end on this observation ~ really~ where did the phrase "worked my ass off" come from because in 61 years, it's never happened.  It seems to hang lower and get wider with every job, but it doesn't appear to be leaving.  Just curious.
Hope you're enjoying your weekend.  I appreciate your visit and have so many new blogs to check out!    Don't forget - if you want the pink supplies, please let me know in a comment on this post.  I'll draw a name next Friday at 9pm.
Stay safe and thank you so much for visiting!!

The pink awareness is such a great idea that I'm stealing it! :) And I'd love to be entered into your drawing, too - I have a very pink little girl that I could make something for. :)

I love your reflection on aches and pains being temporary. Would you pass that word out to others? It makes me so sad to see people crying off physical efforts because of the temporary pains that can result.

Still laughing about the "working your ass off" observation! It always feels so good to have aches and pains from a day of this type of hard work, where you know the end result will be so worth it!
I love your pink idea and would love to have a chance ~ thanks!

That's so wonderful of you to be sharing the pink for Breast Cancer Awareness month! I would love to have a chance at your draw...unfortunately I am one of those people who is fighting this disease after being diagnosed in June. My stitching is one of those things that really helps to keep my mind occupied :-)

Can't wait to see the finished product when your floors are all done. We have pine throughout our house (love them!) but they were there when we moved in... they were put down when the house was built 100 years ago!

Go PINK! I have to agree with you, pink is not a fav of mine either, but I am all about awareness. Nice of you to incorporate this month's awareness cause in a give away.

Obviously whoever said "work your ass off" didn't have one to begin with!!! The aches and pains are worth it when you see the result. The floor sounds like it will be beautiful. Love wood floors.

Your giveaway items of pink are lovely...please add me to your drawing.

Mary is looking good. Thanks for the mylar idea--I will be able to apply that to a few things. You are always sharing great advise with us!

Marly ~
People always say the mind is the first thing to go. I say, no, it the bottom of your butt hitting the back of your thighs!
Great pink idea but don't count me in. I am not a pink person so probably would never use it (if you happened to choose me). Friday at work it was so neat to see almost all the "macho men" wearing a pink ribon.
Hugs :)

Marly, I would love to be incuded in the drawing for PINK< PINK< PINK. We've watched a lot of football this weekend and love seeing the players with their pink shoes, pink gloves, chin guards, etc. etc. etc! Good for them!

Love the finished pears! And at
my age, I guess I've "worked my ass off" and it left because I now need a cushion for my bony butt!!

Yikes...every time I go away for a few days and then come back to visit, I feel like I've missed out big time....Mylar? Pears? New flooring? Holy cats. Yes, I'll read on and figure out what I missed...but holy cats! (There, that's two "holy cats" in one comment....)

Lucky you getting new floors....we finally put flooring in in our basement and I absolutely HATE it...Yes, I was consulted, but given few choices to choose from and just didn't have the time to scout out something "right." Worst of all, it doesn't come close to matching (or even coordinating with) the trimwork and other wood work down there. YUCK! So go my home re-do projects.

Fun idea you came up with to honor the breast cancer awareness effort. I'm not a big pink person either, so please don't include me in your generous draw....but thanks for the thought!

Love those pears....and your strawberry corn....Funny observation but I'm one of those who wish I had a bit more padding back there. Now, if I could just move it from other parts of my body, I'd be good to go. ;o) Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin

Oh I love how the girls have finished their pears. Love the other two that Jumama has in her photo.

I'm the same age as you are and don't all the aches and pains make you feel old. It seems to have come quite suddenly. Hopefully the Nursing Home is waaayyyy down the track lol = Sandra.

You made me laugh SO hard with your "...where did the phrase 'work your *ss off come from....because in 61 years...its never happened..." I hear you! MY ass only goes lower and lower, as well with each passing job. Mine doesn't appear to be leaving, EITHER. What is up with that?

Please enter my name in your giveaway draw. The pinks are beautiful!

Found your site recently through Pinterest and love your samplers! Have read many posts so far, but not all. I will be most interested to see how you resolve your "floor material" decision since I find myself in the same pickle with DH about which material to install, LOL! I admire your samplers since I used to make them myself but these days it's hooked rugs for me but I'll continue to read and drool over yours!

pink has never been one of my top favorites. Mt grandaughter is 7 and it is her favorite color any shade of pink since she was able to speak. Its not hard to pick her out clothes-she is even going to be the pink ribbon fot breast cancer this yr. I have to adnmit since herdesire I now tend to buy fabrics and threads with these tones. It has grown on me. your pine floors will be great we have them throughout the house just not as durable as for you can see the dogs nails in it-lived in. thanks for the opportunity to win your pink favs.

I like pink, so please draw my name/number...lol! Hoping to start the pear soon...so cute.

I envy anyone with hardwood floor or anything that isn't carpet. Take 3 long hair females, 1 klutz (me of course) and numerous cats and dogs and carpet is terrible to try to keep clean.

Never have worked my ass of... it just keeps getting closer to the ground :o}

Would love to have the pink stuff in, throw my name in the hat.

Can't wait to see your finished floors.

I'm so behind on my blog reading / commenting after being away all week, Marly... How nice to read the kitchen reno is now underway--best of luck with all the dust and chaos :)

I've never even heard of strawberry corn, but it is so sweet--that was wonderful of Penny to send you some. And your little pear freebie is adorable in your previous post--thanks so much for sharing your design talent with us, Marly!
