Greetings. Been under the weather, not stitching, not doing much of anything. Mark will take Carole to her appointments, even though it's been 6 weeks and she is allowed to drive but won't. Nor will she attempt a short market trip that I tried to take her on. She hasn't since August 2014 and something tells me that unless it's lunch with friends, she won't be.
I've been debating lately about stitching. Most of you have gone through slumps but this isn't the same. It's more about display. When we finally finish the house projects, I want an early but sparse look. I'm not crazy about lots of wall items, and I am tiring of my wood bowls being obscured by smalls. I like a stitched piece hanging from a cupboard door or knob but every one? What am I going to do with all of it?

So I put away the three smalls I chose and pulled out a big girl. Sally Fiske. It's time I moved on to a larger piece. And since I have yardage, I will use a 30 count unbleached. The 18x27 pieces aren't big enough - she will be 22 x 21. One large piece would appeal to me more than lots of smaller samplers. This week anyway. I want to start working with all the wools I bought and get boxes ready for sale to rid the closet of them. I guess I'm just feeling out of sorts, unsettled, not really wanting to get involved in a project. We still have the damn kitchen to finish too..jpg)
I did make some progress on the linens. I have three drawers of unbleached/tans. One in 28, 30, and 32. The other drawer contains colors in clear pockets, mixed counts. I think this will be the answer. But what about these mystery pieces? They're going in a box to be stored. Do not have the ambition or the patience to figure them out. I may give up stitching again before I would even need them.

For a project this large, there won't be much progress to show except for a new row of alphabet, so I think I will only post once a week. Unless I fall again or cut my hair in Walmart during a hot flash. From the stats, it seems less and less are visiting blogs these days so once a week will be better.

If anyone would like the tedious Sally Hunt chart, let me know. It's yours. Lots of over one and tent stitch, which I will never do.

Oh, I'd love the pattern!
I was tempted by Sally Hunt till you mentioned lots of over one. That's just not much fun to stitch for me. I fully understand your dilemma. I am kind of thinking the same thing. My current goal is to be very selective about what I stitch, making sure really love the design. I am trying to stick to bigger charts. I have no LNS so it is a pain to be always trying to find another linen or the right color floss for lots of little projects.
Most of the time I make smaller objects,because the bigger ones takes so much time to finish and I am not always so patiently.

I think we all go through these periods... right now I'm working on a BAP that is going to take all year as I only get a section a month. Which is fine because I'm barely keeping up. But when I'm working a big project I keep thinking of smaller pieces that would get done! Sometines I just need a finish. Hang in there...your life has been in flux for quite a while and it takes time to sort it all out. I made a major life change about 18 months ago and I'm still trying to sort it all out. Hugs!

I'll miss reading about your adventures so often, but my goodness I can understand why you need a break. You've had a ton to deal with for such a long time, you deserve a full-on vacation to emotionally & spiritually recuperate!

I blog about once a month now but it's all good and it's all for me to have as a record. Stitching slumps come and go so take some time before you do anything drastic. I didn't stitch at all last year but this year my mojo has come back and I'm glad I didn't throw anything away. A lot of my finishes are still rolled up in a draw but u enjoyed stitching them. Xxx

Hey, Marly, I'm one of the guilty ones. Since January, when I discovered your blog, I've visited often but I never leave a comment, so how would you know? Reading blogs (much less writing them) is new to me and I'm stuck at response mode. I can certainly understand if you need to take a break--you deserve it!--but please don't do so because you think no one's reading. I can't tell you how much you've given me to think about as I renew my old interest in cross-stitch. And I appreciate your recipes, too. Although I'm not Polish, I grew up in Cleveland, and they remind me of childhood friends. I'm making your kugel this weekend.

I have been taking a blogging break too, something about nerve pain mixed with allergies and lots of gloomy rainy days. I do enjoy reading though I don't comment as often as I should. You are loved, do what brings you joy!
Hi Marly. I don't post as often as you, I guess I have trouble thinking of what to write to be reasonably entertaining. I still stitch quite a bit. I don't know what the kids will do with it all when I'm gone, but not worrying about that. I stitch for the joy of creating something and the relaxation. Other people may have moved on to other media, but I still enjoy reading blogs, I have my favorites that I read with my morning coffee. I think blogs are more like letters from a friend. I enjoy yours a lot. Your stories can make me laugh. Take care. Hope your slump goes away.
Marly--like others, just want to affirm how much I enjoy reading anything you post. Doesn't matter if it's about stitching--though I am a stitcher and have learned much from you--or your kitchen or family or animals or whtever, I enjoy reading it and often tell my husband about it! You are a natural storyteller. Love seeing your photos. I hope you do some things that help you feel better and that soon you will be enjoying some nice weather.
Marly I've not been following you long so I know my words won't count for a lot but I want to say a couple of things....first of all, I love your blog. Your sense of humor brightens my day every time I read one of your posts. You are matter-of-fact when others talk all around a subject and you have the greatest wit with the perfect way of saying things. Second, I find that stitching is almost seasonal. I do a lot of things, quilt, embroidery, wool applique, and now, after many years have made my way back to cross stitch. I'm not getting rid of my fabric because I'm cross stitching right now - I know I'll go back to quilting from time to time. However, you are very right that there is a limit to how many of anything you need to have around. I've gifted many of my quilts to family who will inherit them some day anyway. I'm keeping only my very favorites. I'm getting close to 69 and I want simpler in my home. I don't want so much to dust or to move around from one cupboard to another. Don't make any drastic moves with your linen, floss, etc. Give it time. Now that I've lectured you (can you tell I'm an old school teacher/principal?) :) I'd love to be considered for the pattern. Since I've just gotten started cross stitching my stash is small and I'm in the collecting mode! blessings, marlene

Dear Marly, I am guilty of not commenting on your posts but wouldn't miss them for the world! Your writing style is a gift and your ability to translate life into words has made me laugh and cry and hurt and pray for you but always, always I am full of admiration and thanks that you take the time to share your gifts (your stitching is amazing).
Having said that, more than anything, I wish you time for yourself and that you be well - I will read anytime you are able to post, whatever works for you.

I also read your blog but never comment. I like reading blogs that touch on stitching, family, home, and furbabies! Sometimes it gets a little tedious coming up with something to post about. That's why I post about two, three times a month on my blog and even then, it's mostly pictures! I agree with you about there not being many bloggers posting these days. If your busy, your busy! If you cut down on your posting, we'll all just wait for the next one! Take care.
