August!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOO!  This is probably why I never have any Christmas items for sale.  I don't want to think about the coming seasons so I ignore them and then it's too late to start sewing or painting.  We've had two weeks of very nice weather and this week will be low to mid 70's.  Next thing you know, 40 at night and it's all downhill from there.

I started working on Sally Fiske again because I have to finish her now or I won't ever.  Kitpin was staring at me and I apologized, she would have to wait.  My new hoop (10") is not large enough for Sally.  There is so much fabric in my lap and on the sides that I can't get to the back of the hoop.  I took the large floor stand from the back of my car (should have been dropped off at Goodwill last week) and was grateful for procrastination.  Mark is going to modify it for me so I hope it will work out.

My brother's wife had many many baskets, most of which were handmade by weavers she knew, or from shows.  It was time to move them out so my car is filled for the consignment shop.  My sister took a few beauties and I only kept a few smalls, a very well made round, and a larger flat back which had hearts and houses stenciled on the wide band.  I used a soft wire brush and Simple Green - now they're gone!   When it's dry I may have to go over that band with a little stain but it's better than stencils.  Must have been purchased long ago.
I'm concerned that my favorite shop in Volant, James Creek Galleries, may be changing too much.  Several friends noticed it and think it may be heading for closing.  I sure hope not.  The gal that worked there through several owners and many years, knowledgeable and a pleasure to visit, is no longer there.   We lost a shop in Vienna Ohio recently and except for Meander Hill, there isn't much anything around.  Especially for upholstered pieces and case goods.  Pine Cone gift shop is about 90 minutes and looks to be a nice place, but I try to stay away from any distance rides because of my neck.  Years ago there were several nice places in the Boardman area but I keep asking, no one knows of any now.

A peek into my pantry - Walgreen's had Dove on sale last week 2/$5.  Great price.  Can't pass up a bargain.  They must be making smaller bags because they are not lasting as long as they should.

Have a great start to your week.  The first week of the last month of summer.  I need a pill.

Thanks for visiting.

Hi Marly,
So happy you still had the larger hoop and it didn't get dropped off!! Hopefully Mark can work his magic to make it what you need!!
I love old baskets and have some special ones that I have collected! Happy you could remove the stencil so it is more usable!!
It is always so sad to hear of shops closing, especially your favorite ones!!
I have been to the Pine Cone Shop but it has been a while!! It was lovely then and hopefully still is!!
I wish I could reach through my computer and grab several of those bags of chocolate...........sigh!!!
Enjoy your week!
Warm Hugs~

Great baskets to be had at Shaker Woods starting next weekend. My favorite is Pennsylvania Baskets. Great large and small as well as unusual shapes. I sure hope James Creek Gallery is not closing. I have spent much time and money there for some great pieces. Like many other items these days, cheap pseudo-contemporary furniture and imported chinese junk. What can we do?

I'm laughing because you said dove was on sale and I thought you meant Dove soap.... Couldn't figure out why Dove soap was in brown pkgs..... Guess I'm not familiar with the chocolate Dove!

I hate that it is August, too. I want to smack everyone who says they can't wait for fall.
I absolutely love your big bowl and wooden funnel. Every time I see one I'm tempted to start a new collection.
Hugs :)

That is a lot of chocolate my friend! The baskets are lovely. So glad that you are stitching.
This is the time of year when I dream of cooler temps!

Yummy-for the Dove bars and the large basket on the lower left corner. Can see a little stitched piece on it and hanging ....it's storming here with cooler weather on the way. Love fall but hate ice. Enjoy today

My husband took me to Volante last August the day after we were married, so Volante is very special to me. I fell in love with James Creek and think it's the best shop in town. We spent a lot of time there again this May during their annual tea. I really hope they stay open. If the close, there's no reason for me to return to Volante.

Marly, sorry to hear that James Creek may be closing. What shop closed in Vienna -- the Apple Basket?
Pine Cone in Uniontown is a great shop. I've only been there once but hope to return soon. I believe their fall open house is September 11. You can check on their Facebook page. There's a shop in Berlin, Ohio (Ohio Amish country), Country Gatherings that also is a nice shop for prim/colonial decorating. Looking forward to more of your posts.

Hugs,
Carole

Great idea for removing the stencils. I have one like that sent by a friend at Thanksgiving one year. I still love the shape but not the stencils. I'll try that. blessings, marlene

You have a very nice collection of baskets. Thanks for letting me know that Simple Green will remove paint on some things.
You are so blessed to have a "Mr. Fix-it" husband. Sounds like he's great at wood working too........as in your kitchen.
I will be glad to see August over with.. I don't like the heat and humidity. I prefer cooler.....not cold weather. I love to see the trees turn beautiful colors......don't like raking though. Sounds like I'm hard to please, huh.
Enjoy your Dove chocolates.

I had my laugh when I saw all those Dove packages!! You are so entertaining! I liked those skinny baskets... if they were not your picks, and are still in your car... can we make a deal? I have been sticking to stitching smalls of late... I have not had the time to devote to big pieces right now. Gads--I recently looked through all the 'freebies' I have printed out all these years... I can stitch from them for a lifetime!! Not to mention the stash I am keeping for ME! Ugh... This week is going to be in the mid-to high nineties... Wish I had your weather!!

I can't figure out how it got to be August...and you're right...the colder weather is right around the corner. The weatherman told us all last night that this week will feel more like fall than summer. Hope the floor stand works out for you.

Guess what...school started yesterday for my kids. Pffft. I can't believe its this early and I don't like August and the reason is: hot, dry and everything has peaked and beginning to decline. I can feel it and I can see it. August...ugh.
