Hello folks. Enjoying the Fall weather? Our beautiful week is over and dreary rain has moved in along with chilly temperatures. October. What a bitch. Anyway, I've decided to keep at Sally which isn't that far from completion. Foolish to quit now, but I plan to work on a smaller project at the same time and trade off. I'm a one project to completion stitcher but I did take a short break for a small recently and I handled it better than expected. What I expected was to continue finding smalls in order to avoid going back to the large. So now I'll try the small one evening, and the large the next and see how that goes, afraid to put Sally aside completely.
I forgot to mention that the day we came home from the car exchange, the lamps flickered for a moment, and shortly after I smelled my mom. Distinctly. She never really wore perfume but always had a lovely scent which was unmistakably hers. I felt my parents telling me they were pleased. And here we go with the weepies again. I do have her Evening in Paris talc, still full, and for some reason cannot locate the little blue cologne bottle. For decades they sat on her dresser, even when we brought her here, and I've kept them together ever since. But it's gone. My mom always saved things "for good", as did my grandmother, thinking they may never be replaced. Neither had any spare money to spend on themselves, whatever little they had went for the children's needs. I inherited that "save it for good" philosophy unfortunately, and also their lack of money for replacements.
Most of you are probably smarter than I am and sit down to put on your pants. I do the pants dance. Standing, right leg in first and then I raise the left, expecting it to easily enter the leg opening as it did all those prior years of youth when hormones were plentiful and limbs were limber. Sometimes it makes the leg opening, most times it doesn't. This starts the pants dance. Hopping on the right leg trying to keep balance, hunched over and holding onto the pants, tapping the left foot on the floor after every failure. I really get a good rhythm going. This dance move has me hopping and tapping while my body continues moving to the right until a wall intervenes. This is my own style of hip-hop. Why the hell don't I give in and sit down?
Maybe next month.
Have a great week and thanks for visiting.

You should start calling your "pants dance" your aerobic exercise! ...jan
My cousin & I bought our mothers Evening In Paris perfume sets every Christmas. They took us to the drug store & we told them to stay in another aisle & not look while we shopped in the rest of the store, but they knew very well what we were buying. I have fond memories of that, & of Evening in Paris. I don't recall my mother or aunt ever wearing it. Mom's favorite was Emeraude. I don't remember my aunt wearing any sort of scent. They always acted surprised on Christmas morning & put the EOP things on their dressers "for good," & then one day they wouldn't be there anymore ... but my cousin & I were clueless. Still are ... lol! I tried buying an EOP perfume set on eBay for my aunt last Christmas. I thought she'd get a kick out of it. Those things go for a fortune now!!!
I am trying to get myself over the for good syndrome. Life is too short.
I also do the pants dance.
I've been known to do the pants dance more than once or twice. I guess we're slow learners :)
The only thing I remember about Evening is Paris is that my mom HATED it.
Hugs :)

I used to do the for good thing but I exclaimed to my aunt that she was using her Polish pottery to eat on and she said why save it for someone else to use when I'm dead. She was right, she died a year ago. I use my stuff now.
Maybe next month - maybe!!
I think of putting on pants while standing as an exercise in balance but usually end up backing up to a wall so I don't fall over.
Haha. I also start with my right leg and then left. Then I do a deep plié and pull up on the waistband at the same time! I wouldn't mind trading my weather for yours-it was 89 or 90 here. Ridiculous. I miss limber limbs and an adequate supply of hormones too. I'm close to driving my daughter bonkers!
My husband does the 'pants dance' and I find it nerve wracking to watch - I'm waiting for him to get it wrong and fall over. He's a big man.
Oh, what memories of Evening In Paris.
We also used to buy that for our Mother.
It had such a beautiful cobalt-blue bottle, which I always loved.
You are not alone, I do the pants-dance also. :)

Sometimes I try to put my pants on while wearing socks. The socks get stuck in the legs of the pants and I HAVE to sit down.. I, too, start with my right leg. Your "pants dance" sounds like it needs to be put to music !
My Mom was a "save the nice things" person. If I remember correctly she liked Emeraude.
I should use my nice things more than I do. Usually get the good china and silverware out for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Would be so nice to use those things everyday.
I hope you'll have a good week and not get too much rain.

I suspect stubborness and a degree of being a high achiever contributes to the desire to put our pants on like we always have. When I do the pant-dance or the-get-dressed-dance I say to myself, "You can do this. It is a good exercise in balance. The less you use it the more you lose it." etc, etc. It is also a wonderful way to relieve some stress laughing at ourselves and the motions we go through. I plan to keep this up until...an injury knocks some common sense into me! Enjoy your memories, as I enjoy hearing about them!
I was up visiting my mom last week and got way, way behind on my blog reading. First of all, thank you for the darling October freebie, Marly! I will definitely stitch it one of these years :)
Isn't it amazing how strongly scents evoke memories. For me, that is almost the strongest of the senses. My mom always used Chanel No. 5 powder and I'm sure if I came across it again, I would think of her. How you must miss your mom--I'm really dreading the day mine is gone...
I normally do the pants dance, too, but have hurt my left foot and now find myself acting like a 90 year old woman in everything I do! I miss my treadmill so much, I can't even tell you--the stress level is climbing steadily!
That really was the most beautiful September weather I ever remember--too bad it couldn't last all year. Hope October is good to you :)
Oh, I got a chuckle visualizing myself doing the pants dance! Never thought of it that way and I can only imagine what hubby thinks, lol.
I can NO LONGER stand to put on pants. Even sitting down to put them on can be a challenge...Thanks to those rotten 'golden years'.
Well join the club, I most always have more than one project in the works. I am notoriously... (oooo, I am having one of those senior moments) ...impulsive. If I am not in the mood for one thing then I go on to the next ... or even a new venture, leaving too many UFP behind.
Funny that you should mention that thing about scents reminding you of dejaVu happenings. Just today I purchased some lavendar scented body spray only because it reminded me of a smell that I remembered as a child when we walked on the boardwalk at the Jersey Shore, Sea Side Heights... Wonderful memories for sure.
All I am trying to say is you've got company...
It was 94+ here again with a sweet breeze that eventually became a lot of wind... and a maybe for rain on Sunday. I am ready for the cooler fall weather any time now.
Anyways, enjoy the rest of the week with Peace and Blessings to all, Barb
My mom always wore it also.. I found a bottle at an antique store fie get one Christmas.. I then found out that vermontcountrystore.com now sells Evening in Paris using the same formula as years ago !! Hope this brings back memories 😀
Oh my gosh, I do the pants dance too! lolol! I've only recently taken to sitting down to put on my pants -- sometimes. But I still stand to put on my underwear. Makes sense, right? :D
I love your posts! you made me laugh with the pants dance and brought back sweet memories of my late mum with your story of the talc and perfumes. Thank you
Gave up the pants dance some time ago, getting older and don't want to break a hip while screaming "I've fallen and I cant't get up" lol
