Ellen is finished with a compromise. I did not move the center so it is slightly off, but I did line up the outer edge motifs to match left and right. This is the type of bag I would like it sewn to, heavy wool with the same for the strap. The sampler would be mounted to the front wool, not sewn into the seam so the material would show around the stitchery.
The bag would be a perfect size, Ellen is 4-3/4" x 6-1/4".
Do I use the bright red? It's a beautiful red, but would it be too much?
Or do I use a beautiful olive green that matches the green floss?
I think the red in the sampler stands out more with the green, but I like the red. So what do I do? I may take this to the only person I know that sews locally since I need a wool coat hemmed anyway. I was not totally pleased with the wool blazers she worked on, but she does wedding gowns and men's suits! So maybe it's my menobutt that is the problem.
We had our group return .....
and they brought a few friends.
They were no help in choosing color though.

For what it's worth, both red and green are very pretty but I like the red a bit better.
I do agree with the first post. But I'm not a good one to ask as red is my preferred color for almost everything. I have barn red cabinets in my kitchen.
I like the red best, too.
The green does make the red pop but I'd choose the red background. :)

You definitely can't go wrong with either; however, I'd pick the green. I love for my stitching to be the center of the piece and I think the green compliments but doesn't overtake the stitching. I'm at times "boring" in my selections and the red backing does catch your eye. Again, it's a special piece....beautiful. ENJOY

I'd go with the green...the contrast makes the red in the sampler really pop. The sampler sinks into the red wool of the red bag and the motifs blend into the background rather than stand out on their own. To me, it's all about the contrast. Either way, it will be a beauty. Love all your beautiful visitors. How lucky you are to see nature come to feast in your backyard!

Love the red or course but I think that would be too much red . I think the green makes Ellen's name and birds pop, so green vote from me. Glad all the deer are back, loving the turkeys. A few years ago we had one turkey walk up the street ( city suburbs) and we all went crazy following around. You could hear the neighbors calling " what the heck is that?".
Tough choice Marly, but I think the green suits the piece best. I don't think that the red would look bad, though. It's such a pretty finish.

Oh dear. Well, you did ask for opinions and I'm sure mine's worth about the standard .02.
I normally like red but in this case I think the green's the better choice - on the red, Ellen sort of blahs out to my eye, while she looks very sharp on the green.
Ellen is a sweet, happy sampler and I think the green is a perfect choice. The green elements really come to life with the green background. Happy to see the crew is back and they brought friends along. We have rabbits, squirrels and a hawk in our neighborhood. Hugs from Kentucky! Kelley

I like the green. I think the colors look better with the green back ground. I feel the red was just to much red.
