Seems to be the current trend. I visited Sharon's blog (Moosecraft) and then checked her sale (EBAY) and was impressed with how much she's letting go. Then I clicked completed listings and saw even more that already sold. She's not the only one from what I'm reading on many blogs. It's hard. But sometimes freeing. And necessary.
At this current time, I don't even want my samplers on the walls. Never felt like this before but maybe it's the aftermath of a wicked menopause. The hot flashes are less frequent, the moods have leveled to a more consistent bitchiness, and I now need a panty liner everyday. My tastes have changed, but from something I've enjoyed most of my life? Why the hell are all these little pillows everywhere? Everywhere! If I gather them to fill a bowl I only see the ones in the front so they're spread around almost outnumbering the empty foils from Dove. I know the alphabet, do I really need to see it over and over? Good golly Miss Meno what has happened to you!! How could you take a perfectly unpleasant hyperactive skinny female and turn her into a big hipped nasty sloth that needs a pad? She used to wear nice clothes and lots of bracelets, now she wears stretchy pants and oversized t shirts. Wake up girl!
My surroundings needing to be serene and clean and sparse has been coming for a long time. Baskets and drieds from beams, loads of dusty looking wood pieces, quilts and throws and pillows, walls filled with shelves and dookies, have slowly been removed. I've admired a shaker look and sparse decorating for some time now and maybe that has nothing to do with the menobeast. I feel like a change is needed and everyone goes through that. The beast years probably held me back with the moods and lack of focus. The plan is for everything to come down and go into bins. When the painting is done and furniture is replaced, only then will I know what will come out.

Better buy another bin.

Have a good day folks.

I am so over "stuff'...gleaning and cleaning out are good for the soul. My husband says...take it all to the Salvation Army. I'm ready to take him up on it! Good luck with your purge. I have found, in the past, that watching an episode of Hoarders is great motivation!
Have a great week,
Robyn
You have written my thoughts. Exactly.
I just turned 63 and feel like I'm drowning in all the
crap I have amassed over the years.
Good stuff at one time. Now it's suffocating.
I so appreciate your honesty.

Yup - trying to get rid of a bunch of stuff. I just donate it. I got rid of a ton of fabric, charts, etc. that I knew I would never, ever stitch - donated it to a stitching group to use in their annual auction. I have kept a lot though...you never know when the urge will come again. for now I just seem to be knitting.
I am caught between the awareness of having too much 'stuff' and terror at the thought of letting it all go. No room to put a single thing more, and no desire to continually switch things out. Should be some kind of motivation. I hate the thought of having to make the decision of what stays and what goes, so procrastination continues. I admire you your decisions and motion!
I agree with everything you've said - I wonder if part of it is an age thing (I'm 62).
Hi Marly! I think it's just part of life. From once having nothing, to attaching "importance and success" to having a lot of stuff and always busy, to finally just realizing, it's not the "stuff and nonsense" that's important...it's the people and time that surround you that is what really matters. And, I think I just got tired of having the responsibility of storing, organizing, cleaning and maintaining said "stuff"....now I have a little extra $ and a lot of extra time for road trips and relaxing. :-)
Just start out with a few items....and see how you feel about letting it go...and then continue on (or not)....just be happy! :-)
Hello Marly, Sounds like a great plan. Go for it! I have thoroughly been enjoying all the photos and updates. You and Mark are quite busy bees. Take care. SAH
Maybe you could find an embroidery guild or something like that and offer your things up to them? I totally get where you are coming from!
I feel the same way all of your readers seem to feel. I could use the money for the things, STUFF, I need to get rid of but don't seen any enthusiasm concerning help for a yard sale from my family.
I used to think I had to decorate for every holiday that rolls around. Lots of Fall, Easter, Americana and of course, Christmas. Hate to think about parting with Christmas but the other stuff can go. Will think about the easiest way to do it with some $$$ in mind.
After living here for 51 years and being 77 things have accumulated....
Take care..........
Thinking of you.

Seems to be in the air these days...too much stuff...I have pared down like crazy over the past 5 years and it feels so much better to have some breathing room...I am enjoying what I do have even more...now if only I could find a place to get rid of 10 or 20 hooked rugs...
