Hope your holiday was enjoyable and your loved ones are well.
I've been shamed by friends into getting a phone. Which one? LG? Samsung? iPhone? What carrier? Verizon? AT&T? No contract?
About Flosstube …. Teresa Kogut has a new one as have others over the months, and although I subscribe I never receive a notice. How come? Do you get emails or notifications of new videos? What am I doing wrong?
About Instagram …. I started viewing the photos of people I follow, and they only go back a day or two. If I click on their icon or name on the right, I am directed to their stories. So I need to click on their icon over their photo/post and do this for everyone to see what I missed in the last week? Many posts mention a blog, webpage, or site to go to for more info or a source and I can never find it. I click on the arrow to view the entire post but the writer does not offer a link, only to go there. WHERE? Are links not allowed in posts?
About Blogger ….. Because I am not Google+ and do not want to be, I can't leave posts on blogs that are, can't see their profiles, can't get their email address, can't leave a message.
New Year's Eve I am planning on doing what I usually do. Nothing. In the afternoon we will take a ride to Dunkin for the last day of the $2 cappuccino sale. Then we'll ride around for one last time in the expensive home developments, and I'll make fun of their decorations. That's not nice, but contrary to what you believe, I'm not. I can't help it! Everyone has their own style and memories of Christmas past that they may want to continue. But a million dollar home that looks like a whorehouse in Disneyland, ya' gotta wonder. My bad. None of my business!
Have a great new year, please be careful if going out!

Totally agree with you. have a happy new year. big hugs
Well I can't help you with any of the techy stuff,,, but PLEASE post pics of some of those 'whorehouses'!
Be safe and have a Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
Good luck with your phone and carrier choice - it seems to be a very personal thing for people. So far as flosstube I think when you go to their page you have to click the bell next to the subscribe button to receive notifications. I'm finding social media frustrating in general - it doesn't seem like Instagram is what it used to be. And I think I've seen a few of those whorehouse homes. Yes, it is their choice but not one I understand. : ) Happy New Year to you, Marly!
You can't imagine how much I love your posts. Really. You always make my dark days brighter. Well, on the technology side I can't help at all, I have a cheap (cheaper than cheap) basic smartphone, that is enough for me as long as I use it ONLY to send a couple of SMS (yep) and emergency calls. I've never cop with things like Instagram for me it's mostly a "admire my over perfect life, even if it's a fake one", I don't have time to find who is posting pictures I would be interested in. I don't post pictures there because you have to post through your smartphone, mine is not even connected to the web LOL, and people would be scared to death discovering my life conditions... I'm from the old team of those who enjoy the story behind a picture, so I stick to reading blogs...
For flosstube you have a bell to click, but it's not always working for me (why ? who knows ! Not me...)
Then, I would please pretty please enjoy seing some of those 'Disneyland like whorehouses': I admit it I'm a bad girl too LOL
Happy new Year !

A very happy New Year to you and Mark and may it bring you a lot of good health and happiness and please be your own Marly and let us enjoy many stories of which you are writing.
Please show us pictures of the Disney homes. We don't have them here in Holland!
Many blessings to you all!
Greetings Truus from Holland
Happy New Year, Marly.
Praying that it will be a much better year for all of us.
My family and I will be doing the same thing that you will be doing, minus the tour of homes.
Used to do that when John was living but no more.
Looking forward to and hoping for happier times, with good health and a little more wealth thrown in.
God bless you and your family.
Hugs,
Charlotte in Va.
I hear you! I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
I love the description of overdone homes ( now I was being kind). my husband falls asleep as usual about 9, I stay awake until midnight! Always do, I sit there and wish myself a Happy new Year! I need to find a good New years movie to watch, preferable a good murder story! For years I had a cell phone one that just made phone calls ( emergency) I think I used it in the 10+ years I had it once to call AAA about a flat tire. I did last summer say if I ever got a new phone it would be for the camera. So husband got me an iPhone, it is a nice camera so easy now to send photos to my children. My grand daughter insists that I text at least once a week. I have T Mobile as a carrier, I have a son you sets everything up for me! I will be making Hoppin' John soup tomorrow for luck. Happy New Year 2019,
When you subscribe to a flosstube channel, you have to hit the little bell next the subscribe button and you will get notifications then.
I also wanted to tell you to "ring the Bell" on Youtube to get the notifications. I love the new Teresa Kogut videos also. I have many favorites but have you seen The Primitive Stitcher? She does everything I love, and I have most of the same patterns. I suspect you are a lot nice than you realize, based on how you care for your kitties.
Before putting away the debris of holiday preparation and putting life back into order much as possible, I wanted to send you a big thank you for the laughs, insights and advice you have sprinkled through our days. May you, Mark and your
Family be blessed with good health, well being and happiness throughout 2019...
Hopefully it will be a better year for all who close 2018 with little regret and
that happy days will be here again....
I have an iPhone because I have a Mac computer and wanted them to be able to coordinate. I like it now that I’ve gotten used to it. If you live close to an Apple store you can take “classes”to learn how to use it. Or you can call tech support. But YouTube has many videos that are helpful. Flosstube - I second the recommendation to watch Primitive Stitcher as well as The Saltbox Stitcher. I have a channel there if you’re interested (stitchinbythelake). And if you look at the list of channels I follow there are tons more. I don’t actually watch all those but they are ones I check if I ever have any time. Click on the bell by any of them and you will get a notification. Instagram...I got off there because I got hacked and I didn’t want the hassle. I do Facebook so I haven’t missed Instagram. I love your blog, especially when you’re crabby since I feel like I’m the same way. Family to take care of, house repairs to manage, children and grandchildren and now great grandchildren dramas to ignore. Stitching is a passion for me though I don’t do well trying to do large pieces. I like finishes too much and get impatient. It’s been a good year and you’ve been a joyful, part of it as I read your musings. Blessings, Marlene
I'm with you on New Year's Eve--especially when it is pouring rain outside like now. But, at least we've escaped snow so far this winter :) Happy New Year, Marly!
I have an iPhone and I LOVE it! Verizon is my carrier. Love them too! You might as well get an iPad while you're at it! Ha! I love all the newest electronics. Gotta keep up with the young'uns!
I would love to see a photo of one of the "whorehouses"! Hilarious! We have a house on our street that we call the "extravaganza". If it can hold a light, it has one on it! Lights up the whole neighborhood! I bet they can see it from the space station!
I hope you have a wonderful New Year!
Basically, my daughters told me "get an android phone if you want choices for every setting on the phone and if that doesn't matter to you, get an iphone". Personally, I have a Samsung S7 and verizon is our provider. In my area, verizon has the best service, followed by AT&T, while the other carriers like Sprint, T-Mobile and the "cheap" ones from Walmart & Target, etc., have very minimal service here. We've had various brands of phones over the years and Samsung has been the best in quality and features. As for instagram, most of the time, for me anyway, when a post mentions a link, I have to click on the name to be taken to the person's page and then sometimes the link is provided in the information under their profile.
I am so with you on the decorating. I think my neighborhood has a competition on how many dumb blow-ups can fit in a yard!!!
For Instagram, no, links are not allowed. (In comments or posts or anywhere you can think of. Maybe you can Direct Message a hotlink to someone.) BUT, you can place a link in your Bio/Description. If you go directly to a person's feed, it will have whatever intro or profile info they have chosen to provide, and often a link. As for winding up in a person's "stories" instead of their regular IG page, it is because you clicked their photo, and not their name. Photo takes you to"stories", name takes you to feed. Also, things in stories are "here today, gone tomorrow". They have a limited -time existence, perhaps 1-2 days, then "drop off". I think a person can "save" their own stories that they personally can access later, but not publicly available. I say get an iPhone. Probably the XR, unless you want the bigger physical size. I think if you must get the Big Boy, go 8 plus. But get the most future-proof bang-for-buck XR unless the bigger screen is a must. You'll need to put a case on there, SO the actual unit's color almost does not matter. Set your calendar and swap for a new case every 6 months. It's a frog in water situation. They get really ragged, and just look broken-down and make you loose pleasure in your phone, so gradually you don't notice it happening. I'm a rather-techy person, and I have an iPhon b cause it just want it to work, and I can't be fussed. BF is a not-Mac person, so we are a dual household. Many times, he will have a phone that is super cool, and THE flagship phone for Google and or android (the mobile operating system which multi-brands of not-Apple phones have been using for years. It is made by google, and each version subsequently named for a sweet food by letter of the alphabet (e.g. "Oreo" and now "Pie"). The problem with it is that there are just too many SKUs across too many manufacturers all trying to chase and one-up Apple (or possibly Samsung. I say NEVER a Phone from them old, deep, personal hatred.) so the support is often shoddy. Things happen like a mandatory update to the phone getting pushed that bricks the phone in such a way that you can not be using the net AND receive a phone call at the same time. TL; DR Get an iPhone for best support of device and smooth experience over time. And the least fuss.but there will still be fuss, Because Mobile Can Suck. *Shrug*
I'm sure people have told you this already, but with youtube, if you want notifications, you have to push the bell as well as subscribe. Only the bell will get you notifications. As for instagram -- what's your handle? :D I love instagram. I follow way too many people! Instagram is totally screwy-- it used to be by time, but now it is totally random what it shows you. It guesses who is most important to you and shows who they think you care about first, then in decreasing order from there. If you want to see absolutely everything, you have to keep going till it says you're all caught up. And even then, chances are it hasn't shown you everything. Chronological order was so much better. Sigh.
Oh. If you want to see what a person has posted, search for them under the tab for search (that miscroscope thing which isn't that, I can't think of the name for it. Ack!). If you go to their "page," you can see all their posts ever.
