That would be wonderful wouldn't it? Unfortunately, it doesn't work on backsides getting into jeans. And sometimes I have an issue with linen. More so on WDW than others, but never on my unbleached rough stuff.
First of all, I finished Kogut's Primitive Santa with all the changes I made. I forgot to add the hat tassel and still may. Stitching after the finish is not uncommon for me and it works pretty well.

But the problem I have (created by not using a hoop) is a wonky edge to the stretched out linen as you can see. The top edge is cut even with the linen thread and the sides have a thread pulled. I usually do this and then pin to the ironing board so it doesn't move when fusing the interfacing. If the facing is fused to linen that isn't perfectly straight, the finish will be wonky as you know. I was using a heavy washcloth beneath because of the buttons.

I measure across the top width and bottom to see if the measurement is the same, also do that top to bottom on corners. This one is 3/8" off and I stretched and steamed the linen's top width as much as I could to gain that 3/8", but it reached its limit. Nothing I did pulled the stretched out wider bottom into alignment.

So the bottom width was not going to line up and that's OK. I like to follow the linen's threads when machine sewing for a really nice edge but it's not always possible. You can see how the missing thread line is out from the interfacing which is the correct width. As for closing the bottom, I tried Aleene's Fabric Fusion and did not like it at all. Tacky is much better. The Fusion did not grab quick enough.
So that's it for Santas. Still have to assemble the bell but the cross stitching is completed. On to a heart or sampler.
Hope everyone's New Year's Eve was enjoyable. Many like myself prefer to stay home and not much routine is changed. Others like to celebrate.
Sun is out melting the snow. Maybe golf tomorrow!
Thanks for visiting.

He turned out great. No one but you would notice that 3/8". But that attention to perfection is what makes your work so beautiful.
Happy New Year
Your Santa turned out really nice! I love his colorful face and suit. Happy New Year to you and I hope 2017 is a year of fun and rewarding stitching for you!
Would not wish you to fret over that 3/8"... if it is untenable,
I will forward my address with a stamped parcel to be returned to
me with that handsome Santa and I will do the fretting for you...
All the finest blessings of the New Year..
Nice finish--like the changes you made
Happy New Year Marly, I love him!!!Blessings Francine.
Happy New Year! Love the Santa.
Love the santa even if you say he's wonky.
Your Santa looks good to me. I do love her designs. We stay home too. Unfortunately we have lots of tribal fireworks for sale here in WA. That meant that at mid-night, it sounded like we were in a war zone. The DH didn't even move, must be the cold pills he is on!!!
Hi Marly: I wish I could throw myself in the dryer and shrink myself 50 pounds.
Love the Santa, I have had that same problem with linen stretching out a bit, I tried ironing and it seemed to work, if you used weeks threads or any that are hand dyed I do not know what would happen.
Blessings
Catherine
This Santa turned out really fun. I think I will have to add that to my endless list of projects. Now we can all move to non Christmas designs for awhile. Golf? Really? I thought it could only be played in June- September. There is 2+ feet of snow on our courses around here and it will stay until May something. I need to move!
Hi Marly,
I know how hard it is when it isn't perfect, but believe me when I say it does not show in the finished piece! Your focus it TOTALLY ON SANTA!!! He is just wonderful and you might even consider a tiny bell instead of stitching for the top of his hat!!
We stayed home as well, and it was the perfect way to welcome in 2017!!!
Happy New Year to you!!
Heart Hugs~

Happy New Year Marly.
Like your Santa and as Julie said a bell at the top of his hat or maybe a tastle to swing at his hat.
Greetings Truus from Holland
Santa's looking good. Hope Carole is getting better and no one else has gotten sick.
Your Santa is adorable, i have done samplers and only found out when I tried to frame that it was off !!!!! Try as I could it would not be straight, I give up and say every error/mistake makes it unique. Repeat three times...Every error/.....Wishing yo a Healthy New year.
Hi Marly, So what if the top and bottom measurements are not equal. No one will ever know but you. Since you probably won't be framing this one it will never show. 3/8ths of an inch is nothing to fret about! Happy New Year - May 2017 be the best of years for you and your family.
Hmmmm....I wish I were only 3/8" off....I fear, however, it is much, MUCH, more. ;o) I adore your fella in red...and while I can see what you're talking about in the one photo, it certainly doesn't show on the finish.... I think we have had this discussion before...but I never use interfacing on my sitching??? I just stitched a teeny little saying I was going to finish into a tuck...now I'm paralyzed.... Should I put interfacing on it??? Hellllp. Hope your new year is off to a good start...I was home alone...watching the Twilight Zone... Feel like I am IN the Twilight Zone at this point because the marathon is still going and I am still watching. Smiles & Hugs ~ Robin
Happy New Year! I was going to say that I was stealing your button idea and then realized that this Santa is not one if the two Kogut patterns I got for Christmas- haa! looks great!
Happy New Year. Love the santa and I love the little guy peeking from his pocket. Your finish looks great.
Happy new year, Marley! I think Santa looks wonderful! But, I know how something not being straight or square can drive us nuts. Luckily, the difference is not discernible (at least to me) and the finish looks great!
What a beautiful Santa! Happy New Year!
Sweet Santa...3/8" of an inch is OK with me. I call it primitive.
Have a healthy & Happy New Year with Peace for ALL,
Barb
Happy new year
joy, peace and love

Was that 3/8" the selvedge? The reason I ask is that yesterday I was cutting out a knit cardigan and could not get the fabric to cooperate until I removed the selvage. After washing the fabric, it shrank a bit and the fabric would not lay flat.
No matter - your Santa is very nice and I see no indication of it being a wee bit off! He's *almost* enough to make me forget I don't care to do cross stitch, I love the results though!
Wow! I just love this Santa--thank you for making me aware of Teresa's great designs, Marly!
Your new Santa looks great. Have NO idea why the linen is crooked like that... hmmm... Thanks for sharing! Happy 2017!
