After the fact

Do you always regret getting rid of things, or just some times?  Most times?  It wasn't until I received the newsletter from Rebekah Smith that I realized those tall tiny boxes were for wool applique.  They were old and much better quality than what I could get today.  Too late.  Those were burned.  I saved one box from each of the wooden styles that went to Goodwill.  They were just the unfinished lightweight wood I found over the years at craft stores, some small, some large.  So today I decided to paint one and I really like the result.

I may add a black wire latch to the front, maybe a base with feet.
I'm sure if I would have kept them, they would still be taking up space in my cupboard, serving no purpose.

But I would like another.

In my little world, I find I don't NEED something until the day after I've thrown it out!! Never fails. See, there IS something to be said for becoming a hoarder :>) !!I just LOVE your box-- love the way you painted it, the distressed look. Details?

Been catching up on your posts. That poor woman at Kohl's. Have you decided on a gift? I really have no clue -- I'm terrible at such things. Ticks -- we are in prime Lyme country. Yes, that's how it is here. You wait to see what happens with a bite. Just watch yourself for those flu-like symptoms. Achy knees, stuff like that. (Although if you're like me, you already have achy knees. lol!) Love your painted box!

Oh dear ... the answer is nearly always for me. Really have no idea what all I got rid of in the way of charts and fabric when we moved - until I see something in someone's blog or on ebay and think oh, I have that and start looking for it. Bleah. Though a friend has a tag line in her email signature that helps when I remember it: you can't have everything - where would you put it?

Box looks gorgeous - love the crackely parts!

I like that box. A black latch would be perfect. Look forward to your next post.

Yes, I have gotten rid of a few items that I really wish that I had now, but then again if I hadn't I may not have some of the things that I now love. I like the idea of a black latch. That box is great.

I just sometimes regret getting rid of things. We downsized and moved recently and I have a hand full of decorative things I have not come across yet. I don't think I would have donated them to Goodwill but in a weak moment who knows? And yes, its bugging me to know! Oh well.
Very nice job on your box!

I've got a closet full of small boxes, mirrors, trays all kinds of little what-me nots that I have picked up along the way. Having good intentions of making some out of them...ugh!
I really need to follow your lead and purge! You did a great job painting your little box!

Without fail, give something away, and then need it.
My husband has started making boxes from pallet wood, lots of boxes. He doesn't like to finish them. I have become his designated finisher (I would rather be stitching!), and I have been wanting to do a finish just like the one you have done. Would be most appreciative if you would share your method. Your box is beautiful!
Thanks.

What a transformation on the box! Gorgeous distressing job! You have the talent for that! I just gave some books, vinyl, tapes, cds to the thrift store... Pretty sure I won't miss them!
